Here’s an early and late doubleheader. No matter if you choose to see just one of these shows or take them both in, this is a great way to get your holiday weekend under way.
It was six weeks ago that Misty Boyce played her farewell New York show and moved to Los Angeles. But even so, she’s returning to The Rockwood Music Hall with a show there tonight. This is a full band show and Misty will be backed by Chris Cubeta on guitar, Chris Kuffner on bass and Elliot Jacobson on drums. You can expect to hear songs from Misty’s fine EP, Tough Love, which was released earlier this year, as well as some of her older tunes and whatever surprises she has in store. This all gets going at 8pm.
Later (10:30pm) and further uptown at Hill Country, Jess Klein will be playing a full band show as well. I found Jess earlier this year while going through the SXSW Torrent. Her song Behind a Veil jumped out at me. Seeing her live at SXSW confirmed that she is the real deal. Jess and her music fit in the same neighborhood as Now I’ve Heard Everything favorites Charlie Faye and Amy Speace.
